June 2020 UPDATE: According to Pinterest, future planning is back on and YOU the marketer of your business should be looking on how to reach those pinners. I have updated my tips below to include this new update. Check it out!

Right now being an business online (especially small) is a difficult time and you maybe wondering what to do about your Pinterest marketing, especially if you are seeing a dip in sales. Do you…Stop posting? Stop sharing? My advice..NO! and here is why……

Pinterest is a planning platform and so while there might not be tons of purchasing of that necklace at this exact moment, that does not mean that the purchase won’t happen AFTER we are thru the worst. So keep posting content for users to dream about, plan for and purchase later.

(P.S. Disclosure: Some of the links on my blog from Tailwind are Affiliate Links, meaning, at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase)

Here are some tips:

Continue to focus on posting fantastic content that your followers and targets audience will engage with.

Your target is bored and currently at home scrolling the internet and looking for a distraction from all the Covid-19 chatter on Facebook and Twitter. So Pinterest is where they head to for relief. Be there to be that relief. Post content that will get their attention (but related to your business), like new blog posts and short videos.

Remember to create imagery that stands out and is the correct sizing. Sharing an old blog post you shared 3 months ago? Create a new image and description for it. Pinterest just announced some changes to their algorithm and they want to see FRESH PINS (new imagery & new pins description is a fresh pin fyi)! Don’t forget those Keywords either Pinterest Marketers.

Consider creating & posting content that is relevant to the current situation we are in. For example, right now I’m seeing a lot of blog posts from businesses that supply education resources on “how to educate your kids while they are off for school”. This is timely and relevant to the target audience. If that is you, then post away.

ALSO (June 2020 Update): Look at posting/ creating content that encourages Escapism and Optimism. Your audience is starting to get restless, bored or lonely. Shift messages from support to inspiration and give people something to look forward to tomorrow, like future travel and ideas related to postponed life events (Source).

Think about how your customers have changed and change with them

Nobody is the same right now. Even if you still have a full time job or squirreled money away for a rainy day, the way you did things has changed. That is a fact for you and for your customers. SO make sure your company and brand acknowledges this and reacts appropriately.

For example; consider how your your holiday marketing will look (it may not be about lots of money spent on presents, but about small gatherings with family). Look at how travel has changed and let your customers and your prospects know that “You get it” and help guide them along a new path. According to Pinterest:As purse strings tighten, consumers will prioritize brands that align to their values. Share your values. Share the values-driven actions you’ve taken. You’ll stand out when you stand up for something”. I could not agree more!

Use Tailwind Tribes

(!! Not on Tailwind? Great a free trial HERE).

Tailwind Tribes are like Pinterest Groups but BETTER! There is loads of features that are not in “Groups”, like seeing what content is popular with other tribe members (super helpful!). Use these tribes to help get your content boosted during slow times (and high times as well!). Help others get the boost they need by sharing that relevant content I talked about above.

While we are talking about it… Make sure to get on Tailwind as mentioned above!

Tailwind is a Pinterest approved scheduling tool that will help your content get seen at the right time to the right users. Why guess while your stressing? Have someone (aka a tool) do all the hard-work for you. Tailwind turned my Pinterest account around and I saw results fairly quickly. I cannot recommend it enough, especially during times likes this.
